Pool Party!

Just in time for the cold winter blast.  Here’s a very small selection of pools I’ve photographed over the years.  More to come in future posts.

In Rotation

The Beckham & Issa website has our images in rotation on their home page.  We shot for this last year and my previous post about it can be found here.  I’m always interested in how the final product will be cropped, manipulated, etc.  It was a such a productive shoot, we even employed the homeowners dog for a shot.  Art directed and produced by Greene Street Creative.

The High Line

If you’re ever in New York, I highly (no pun intended) recommend you visit one of the best park ideas in the United States (Yes, that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it until I’m proven wrong).  The High Line was originally built in the 1930’s as part of an infrastructure project called the West Side Improvement to elevate existing rail lines off the congested roadways.  After 50 years of service, the last train ran over the streets in 1980.  Destined for demolition, a preservation group formed in 1999 called the “Friends of the High Line” with visions of repurposing the space for public use.  Fast-forward to today and you have a truly unique park-going experience.

Unlike most parks, the High Line is meant to be walked.  There are great design aspects incorporated into the structure that allow you to soak in your surroundings if you’d rather not walk.  There are giant wooden lounge chairs cleverly designed to slide along the preserved rails so you can move your lounge up to the person you’re with.  There are also small patches of grass to picnic on, modern wooden benches that rise up from the floor as well as stadium-like bench seating that overlooks the streets below. It’s all surrounded by beautifully kept gardens of wildflowers and exotic plants.

This shot was taken at west 18th street.  It’s a billboard of Joel Sternfelds shot of the High Line before renovation.

Ocean Series

When I do get the chance to shoot for myself, I find myself drawn to making 3-dimensional spaces as flat, minimalist and 2-dimensional as possible.  Most of my commercial work is concentrated on a literal interpretation of spaces.  I try to create depth, space and pathways for the viewer to fall into the shots. Being able to turn those tables around visually is always a challenge.  The ocean is a perfect place to create that play on space.  Beach, water, sky.  Simple elements flattened into a wall of grayscale tones.  I’m looking forward to the continued progression of this series.

Large-scale, archival prints are available for sale.

JerseyBocaLicious

Boca Raton, meet Tony Soprano.

I’m going through my archive of images for the “soft-redesign” of my website and I came across this long-lost living room.

I photographed this for Sotheby’s about 6 years ago.  If I remember correctly, the homeowners touted about how long the fresco paintings took to complete.

It is impressive, for better or for worse, and I’m sure this room impressed all of the friends who came to visit.  With that, it’s worth all it’s weight in excess gilded-furniture-gold and it will definitely be included in the new website, I just can’t believe I left this off my main website for so long.

Up And Running Again

Earlier this month, my former blogspot account had a catastrophic failure when I joined Google+.  This may have been a blessing in disguise as I’ve been throwing around the idea of relocating it.  Forced with making a move, I’m now directly linked in with my website.  I lost about 2.5 years worth of posting, so now I have to figure out how to pull all that over and re-insert the lost imagery.  The other option is to start fresh.  I haven’t decided yet.

I’ve successfully imported previous posts, but I have to individually add the lost images to each of those posts.  Bear with me as this will take some time and continued tweeking.

Join me here if you were previously following.
